Topcon Takes Digital Construction 4.0 Theme to Global Audience at Bauma

Posted: 4/13/2016

The theme for the Topcon booth this year is Digital Construction 4.0 - the next generation in construction. The industry as a whole, and specifically construction has evolved at a rapid rate over recent decades, with dramatic improvements in processes, practices, capabilities and value. We are currently in the ascendancy of Industry 4.0, the fourth industrial revolution, which embraces automation, data exchange and manufacturing technologies. Topcon involvement in Digital Construction 4.0 illustrates the possibilities for consumers to be part of this revolution where workflow based on data sets is the key.

Throughout the latter part of 2015, Topcon traveled throughout Europe with the Technology Days roadshows presenting our vision and introducing solutions to manage our infrastructure construction projects. Now Digital Construction 4.0 is presented to a wider audience at Bauma 2016. From project tendering, through design, planning and scheduling, earth movement and finishing with paving, compacting and reporting. At Bauma, we've added a second workflow: road resurfacing as part of road lifetime management.

New products include the SmoothRide solution for resurfacing roads with vehicle-based scanning as a base for milling, paving and compaction; as well as the recently launched 3D-MCMAX IMU-based 3D dozer machine control system. In addition, there will be new LPS based systems for concrete paving and for excavating. A new monitoring system will also be announced (look for a sharing of the press release on TopX this week).

Special visitors
Alexander Dobrindt, German Minister of Transport and Digital Infrastructure, visited the Topcon booth as Ulrich Hermanski and Andreas Strunk explained Topcon's vision of construction automation and solutions for road resurfacing. Achiel Sturm toured Topcon investors through Topcon, RDS and Wachendorff booths as well OEM installations at Komatsu, Ammann, Wirtgen, Vögele, Hamm, Kleemann showing various technology installations, and various machine types and applications. (More on the minister's visit coming soon in TopX.)

In addition many up-front scheduled VIP customer meetings are taking place. Topcon welcomes throughout the week groups from Germany, The Netherlands, Belgium, France, United Kingdom, Italy, Switzerland, Norway, Sweden, Iceland, Estonia, Lithuania, Finland and Luxembourg. Achiel Sturm, director channel marketing EMEA, said, "Every group gets a warm welcome at our booth, a tailored presentation on the Bauma introductions along with lunch or afternoon snack. The first groups have already enjoyed this treatment and the concept is received very well by customers and our sales representatives as a small meeting takes place away from the busy and noisy exhibition environment."
