Topcon announces new G3 OEM board
Topcon Positioning Systems’ new OEM and Mobile Positioning Division announced the development of a new OEM board (G3160T), the world’s first to track three satellite positioning systems – GPS, GLONASS and Galileo.
Based on the standard 160mm Eurocard format, the new board’s 72 Universal Tracking Channels tracks GPS L1, L2, L2C and L5, and well as signals from the other two constellations.
Other boards available include:
- The TG3, powered by Topcon’s TPSCORE ® GPS chip, is an economical board providing 50 channel GPS+GLONASS single-frequency technology with up to 100Hz data and position update capability.
- The Euro 112T, which is based on the small Eurocard format (112mm). It provides 40 –channel tracking for GPS L1/L2 and GLONASS signals.
- The Euro 160T is designed with the standard 160mm Eurocard format. The board delivers 40-channel tracking for GPS L1/L2 and GLONASS signals.
IPS-2 is Topcon’s new mobile mapping, positioning vehicle
Topcon has announced its new muti-faceted IPS-2 mobile mapping and vehicle positioning product.
Eduardo Falcon, senior vice president of development operations, said, “The IPS-2 is a vehicle-mounted, mobile 3D precision mapping and survey solution, with primary positioning coming from our survey grade and GPS+ satellite positioning technology.” The IPS-2 uses inertial measurements combined with electronic odometry readings from the vehicle to “maintain incredible accuracy in a mobile environment even when signals are obscured by buildings, bridges or trees,” he said.
The IPS-2 is designed as the perfect solution “for many mobile mapping applications, including GIS mapping, road surface analysis or geo-referenced asset management,” Falcon said.
But that’s just scratching the surface of the IPS-2’s capabilities.
“It is the perfect tool for road corridor mapping (including exact location of adjacent buildings and structures, tunnel interiors, inspection of road surface conditions, analysis of road profiles and radius curvature, edge condition analysis, plus many other applications,” Falcon said.
The IPS-2 can also be used for maintenance applications, including surface crack detection, rutting, pot-hole detection and striping analysis, plus other maintenance information needs.
In the area of asset management, the IPS-2 “can make quick work of pinpointing utility structures – fire hydrants, utility poles, road signs, traffic signals and overhead cables, for example.
The website has information about how qualified buyers can acquire a free development kit so “end-users can experience Topcon’s industry-leading GNSS technology and create the best possible value for your company,” Falcon said.
“The bottom line,” he said, “is to simply tell us what you need and we will design a personalized solution just for you.”
